The Eleventh Hour–Almost

The eleventh hour is fast approaching…gulp!

We just heard from the movers to confirm that they will be here on Monday morning between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m.  It’s down to crunch time now and in my opinion, the most difficult in terms of packing.  All the last minute stuff needs to be placed in boxes and it’s those last boxes that will contain odds and sods of everything that we’ve been using up until the last moment.

I’ve never NOT made my bed and for the last couple of weeks, the “WHY BOTHER” mode has kicked in.

SAM_0852

I promise that this will be the very LAST time that you will ever see an unmade bed in our house!  And where does the dust come from???

The living room is virtually impassable.

SAM_0853

Heck, you can’t even tell that it’s our living room.

Remember this?

DSCN1368

Well, here’s what it looks like now.

SAM_0851

Pretty sad, huh?

Ever since the “SOLD” sign went up on the front lawn, we’ve both been detaching ourselves from the house.  With all the painting and unpacking we have to do in Nova Scotia once we get there, I think our Christmas will be non-existent this year in terms of decorating.  There is no way we can possibly get everything done in three weeks and that’s okay because we want to do things right the first time.

SAM_0854

We had to move some boxes out of the kitchen because we just couldn’t get around.  At least now we can get to the sink.

Tomorrow is the auction where we’ve placed all of the things that we haven’t either given away or sold that won’t be coming with us.  That leaves Sunday to take care of the VERY last minute stuff.  Tuesday, we’ll be on our way to our new home.

Wish us luck and please say a little prayer.

I’d rather be stitching!

Kaaren ♥

I have been watching all of your preparations and after moving once like you are doing, brought back so many memories. I am looking forward to your new house and how pretty it will look. I will be saying prayers for you and I wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful designs that you give away for free. Being a very new stitcher you have given me such confidence. So thank you and I will be praying for your move.

Go out for Christmas dinner sweetie, don't give yourself the extra pressure of trying to meet a deadline. Then, why not a 13 month headstart for next year - your sure to be ready.
Pace your self my friend.

I feel your pain! Try not to think about having to put all that away! Hey, I have a little Santa with the Christmas treet and sleigh like you have in your "before" picture, he's out all the time, my favorite Santa from my collection! Anyway, good luck on your move!

You look very organised. I empathise with you as I recently moved countries so know that last minute panic feeling.
Pace yourself and enjoy the transition. I'm sure it will all go well.
As for Christmas-don't stress. Just being in your new home will be blessing enough.

I'll bet some of your new neighbours will "have you over, that is what Nova Scotians do!

I have done the moving thing a few times and don't envy you the work. It will all come together even if you don't get it done before Christmas. You may even need to buy some new things to fill up the house you are moving to.

You're almost at the end of this chapter and the beginning of the next! Just think how exciting it will be to start putting your new home together just the way you want it!
I'll be thinking of you - and hope that you have good weather for the move.
Maybe you can find a nice hotel near your new home for Christmas dinner -- and take that pressure off yourself altogether!

I would bet that you will take time to do some sort of Christmas Decorating just to sit back in and enjoy, even if for only a little while. There's something calming about having your home decorated at this time of year and I am sure your new home will be no exception one way or another.
Best Wishes to you and your DH and may your take all of your love for Ontario down east and go safely on your way. Maybe wear your pink boots to give you happy feet, you know,,,happy feet, happy heart..
As always
Be always in stitches.

Moving is so good, it gives you a chance to really get down to what you love and what is important to keep. I think if we moved every 2 years we wouldn't have anything! You are on the downhill of the move in just a few days, and unpacking is better than packing!

Anne said...

So excited for you! Good luck and I'll be thinking about ya.

It's not long now - last minute stuff is horrible (and unavoidable) but you are heading to a new wonderful home and life. The very best of luck and safe journey x

Oh Good Luck Kaaren. You are on a new adventure!!

Kaaren,

I can't imagine the emotions you are going through in this last bit of crunch time. Take a deep breath and step outside if it gets too much.

Have a safe journey and along the way stop in at a craft shop and get yourself a funky little desk top Christmas tree with lights to put in your home to celebrate the season. If not, think of the great present you have in your new home in a new province.

Enjoy your last night in your old home and celebrate the holidays in your new one!

Lots of work but its getting more and more exciting as you get closer to being in your awesome new home. That has to be one of the best Christmas's ever, decorations or not.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh kids..............you have lots of prayers going out for you. You will do just fine.

I have a great tip (moving expect that I are......). Make sure your last box out (first one in) is a box that contains fresh clean sheets, a freshly washed mattress cover, you bed blankets, your 2 pillows, a set of towels and wash cloths, a full place setting for each of you, including coffee cups, the coffee pot (some coffee too), bathing soap and dish soap. And, if you lived at my house, there would be a nice bottle of red wine and the opener.

Immediately, the first night, you can go to bed, your bed will be made fresh, you can shower and wake up to a nice breakfast (even if it is McDonald's).

We've made several moves across the U.S. and this is our standby list! Works like a charm. You sleep well the first night and you wake refreshed and excited! We are all so excited for you!!!!

God Bless the 3 of you!!!! Nite nite.

For Christmas you can make a little spot in your new home with some few Christmas decorations just to get the cozy Christmas feeling. If you can find the boxes with Christmas decorations, of course :D

You'll be stitching away in the new place before you know it! It's been fun to share this adventure with you. When we move I quit making my bed too, there really doesn't seem to be any sense in it at that point, besides, who's going to see it anyway? Good luck with the auction and on the big moving day. You'll definitely be in our prayers!
Cindy
P.S. Have I told you we plan on downsizing and doing this very thing in the next couple of years? Maybe that's why I find it so interesting.

If I didn't know better, I'd say I was watching a re-run of our move last year! I'll tell you from experience that you won't miss not doing Christmas this year - we sure didn't! What with unpacking, painting and decorating it went by very fast and we treated ourselves to a nice Christmas dinner out! By this time next year you'll be where we are this year, Kaaren - having a blast decorating for the holidays! Know that we are sending lots of good wishes for a safe and perfect move!
Cheers!

It is stunning how many boxes "stuff" can fill. Glad almost all of that is done and you'll get to take your time once in the new place. Weeks of disarray surely gets demoralizing, but soon it will be made into home. Good luck!
